A closer look at the Fab Tree Hab's design shows that the structure both feeds and is fed by its natural surroundings. It has walls woven from vines, soy-based plastic windows, rammed earth and tile flooring, plus solar hot-water heating, which warms the house through radiator-like floor pipes. This image shows how a Fab Tree Hab home could grow from saplings to full-fledged dwellings -- now that's what you call truly organic architecture.

What a bunch of rubbish. Not one of these designs offers an even slightly viable solution to any form of housing.

I think it's actually quite cool. But I see no advantage to normal eco housing, although it's much cheaper, and would be viable... if you are for example fleeing a nazi-like army and forced to live in the forest for the rest of your life... or just for holidays.
By the way.. your posting service is VERY buggy! if you dont enter the email correct first time, you cant correct it! or in firefox at least... anti-firefox people are stupid o.o

'Self-absorbed' is all I can say for the previous comments. First - its viable - there are already communities making use of the concept. 'Concept' may in fact be a dated term, as sustainable building in such a manner described is possible and becoming more popular. Second - while I do not give much props to the person who did the research and collection of the photographed examples because there are much better examples of tree houses, there are certainly houses of the like with all the amenities of a normal home but built sustainably, renewably, and with less change to the environment. Third - If more practiced the idea of earth friendly living and there were others living near you one may be less inclined to refer pejoratively to it as 'forest living'. Fourth - maybe one day we will be able to call such an idea 'human living' or 'earth living' while referring to our past as 'destructive' and 'selfish living.'

While I would have maybe chosen some...softer wording, I entirely agree with this last comment o.o Where do you think humans were living before concrete was created? Unless you're undergoing cryogenic sleep, you have no possible way to remove yourself from the world around you like that (and even then). Technology has first removed nature, and now it's reached a point where we can live in nature again while still enjoying the comforts that we take for granted. I think it's a great idea.

Great stuff, I've been looking for something like this; thanks very much for taking the time to develop this harmless idea.
Have you got any growing yet?
Do you know about Victor Schauberger and implosion technology? Cos then we could grow this all on a big shell shaped platform and levitate off for tea in the clouds =) Well would love to share my designs to that effect if any one is interested. Charlie@SustainableMedia.Coop
While it is growing you could meditate on the now with the nature spirits and Deva's and they could do tings with you to make it easier, not to mention manifestation/Gestation.
Blessed the garden...
